Emergency - 911 service is available from all the local climbing areas.

Included in your planning for visits to any of the climbing areas in southern Illinois should be emergency preparedness.

Know ahead of time what you're going to do, and where you're going to go, "just in case".

The ICA encourages all climbers to learn, use and educate others about the best practices for climbing safely, and

to be there as part of the community when it's time to step up and help others. This means helping in a crisis,

but also helping to avoid a traumatic event, by speaking up when climber error can be avoided.

In the worst case scenario, please: be prepared and be calm.

Giant City Area

Directions from south entrance of Giant City: Giant City Road north to Hwy 13 West; turn left, west into downtown

Carbondale, to North Illinois Ave/Hwy 51 North. Turn right; go one north block to Jackson Street; turn left, and go

two blocks west to hospital.

Directions from north entrance of Giant City: Springer Ridge Road north to Pleasant Hill Road; turn left, and

go west to Hwy 51; north on Hwy 51 into town. Go one block past Main Street (Hwy 13 West) to Jackson Street;

left, two blocks west to the hospital.

Jackson Falls Area

Directions from Jackson Falls area: Ozark Road to Hwy 45, turn right; northeast on Hwy 45 to Harrisburg

(about 20 miles), right on East Sloan Street; follow blue 'hospital' signs to Hospital Drive.
