Hey there,
my name is Zavisa (pronounced something like Za-vee-sha), though most people call me Zavi or even just Z. Originally from Europe, I’ve been living in the United states since the late 1990s and climbing in southern Illinois for about half that time, so chances are good you’ve seen me at the crag. Although I do just about every other sport and/or activity I can find time for (hiking, road- and mountain-biking, skiing, sailing, table-tennis, etc. etc.) I enjoy climbing above everything else. Maybe it’s the unique mixture of power, technique, endurance and focus that climbing requires; maybe it’s the the post-send euphoria that makes whatever came before completely worth it. One thing I know for sure is that part of the whole experience are all the people I’ve had the pleasure to meet. All of this makes climbing a unique sport, one that has certainly left a mark on me.

When I’m not climbing, I live in Saint Louis with my girlfriend Laura. If you’ve met me, you’ve probably met her as well. Fortunately for me she enjoys climbing as much as I do, so we get to spend quite a few weekends in southern Illinois. I have a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Missouri in Saint Louis, and I work as a graphic & web designer for a direct marketing company. Needless to say, that makes me the guy responsible for the new ilclimbers.org and probably much of the material you will receive from us in the future.
The reasons I got involved with the ICA were 1. a deep concern for the area due to some closures – most notably the unavoidable closure of Draper’s Bluff following changes in Illinois law that affected property owners who allow people onto their land, and 2. I felt that my professional skills could be a benefit to the ICA, and it’s ability to communicate effectively with its members and non-members alike. Because climbing isn’t represented by a large and powerful lobbying group in Illinois, it’s important that we reach as many climbers as possible, and make all their voices heard as one. I’ve tried pretty hard to make this site as functional and user-friendly as possible, but I’m always looking for feedback and any suggestions you may have. If you have any questions, comments or concerns about our presence on the web, don’t hesitate to email me (zavisa-at-ilclimbers-dot-org).
See you around,
Zavi
