I was lucky enough to start climbing in Southern Illinois. Since that day I have been heavily influenced by our climbing community, and enjoyed every minute of it. Climbing down here has introduced me to wonderful people, places, and times. Well, I’m sure many of you can relate…

In 2007 I obtained a Bachelors degree in Forestry with a specialization in Recreation Management. Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to continue my education and will finish my Masters degree in Forestry, with a research focused on rock climbing, in May of 2010. Since I initially began my time in Southern Illinois, I have spent several summers living and working in Wyoming as a climbing specialist, and I have primarily managed the SIUC climbing wall and the Outdoor Adventure Program. Recently, I’ve become involved with the Jackson County Rope Rescue Team where I’ve been fortunate enough to learn from Eric, and look forward to continuing to do so.

When I can actually manage to find the time to get out climbing I get a kick of anything from a casual late night bouldering session, to alpine routes, ice, multi-pitch rock routes, and sport climbing. I believe that no matter what area of expertise one pursues, it is our duty as a community to be proactive in maintaining safety and access for the climbing community, establishing and following ethics, as well as maintaining a positive relationship with land managers.

I’d like to say thanks for being given the opportunity to play a role in an organization that continuously inspires me by the immense potential we have to influence the future of climbing in Southern Illinois.
